This is one of the most venerable publications in the green building
industry. Urban Ecology was founded in 1975 by visionary architects

nature. From the beginning, Urban Ecology has used urban planning, ecology,
and public participation to help design and build healthier cities.
The LEED (Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System® is a voluntary,
consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable
buildings. LEED provides a framework for assessing building performance
and meeting sustainability goals. Based on scientific standards, LEED
emphasizes state-of-the-art strategies for sustainable site development,
water savings, energy efficiency, green materials selection and indoor
environmental quality.
LEED is rapidly becoming the benchmark for green building, worldwide.
In the United States, government agencies and municipalities are offering
tax incentives and other benefits to builders, owners and banks who participate
in successful LEED projects. Municipalities are also using LEED to set
building standards and codes.
